He studied economics at Princeton University and MIT. Dr. Mankiw is a prolific writer and a regular participant in academic and policy debates. His research includes work on price adjustment, consumer behavior, financial markets, monetary and fiscal policy, and economic growth. His published articles have appeared in academic journals, such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, and Quarterly Journal of Economics, and in more widely accessible forums, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and Fortune. Mankiw has been a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, an adviser to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Congressional Budget Office, and a member of the ETS test development committee for the advanced placement exam in economics. From 2003 to 2005, he served as chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers.

A good that is not well engineered, falls apart, doesn't last long, or doesn't really deliver quality results is not well spent money, no matter how happy to glad you felt about its production or purchase costs initially. That is a hidden cost of qualitative factors, and a waste of money to me. Not very economical. And this qualitative results of goods is not really factored in that I can remember. Then it has the basic rosy view that all nations are to be trusted in free trade, without factoring in that many nations have sinister goals, where the wealth gained is not always for both consumers and producers, but used by governments and corporations for more sinister goals (even here in America sometimes by particular regimes era to era), e. g., the Chinese building up their military with all our wealth and jobs and technology that we are transferring overseas to them via imports, production there by American corporations, or our national debt. So, the book is very simplified and always argues free trade is great, no matter what.
